Kenya, here I come...

One week from today, I will have been on a plane for a very long time headed to Kenya! It's quite a trip, with three flights and a bus ride :) WHEW! I'm pretty excited, although it seems really surreal at this moment. Like, am I REALLY going to Africa?!

I have a vivid memory of thinking as a child that Africa was sooooo far away.  Which it is...but in my head it was nearly as far as the moon! And as a young teenager I remember praying "God, I'll do whatever you want me to do and go wherever you want me to go...but I really don't think you'll ever send me to Africa."  It makes me giggle that for some reason I thought Africa was like this unattainable place to go...too far to travel to in any reasonable way.  Funny how much smaller the world seems with all the technology that has been developed since I was a little girl listening to "We are the World" and watching National Geographic shows about wildlife in Africa.  I mean, goodness....I just added an international text plan to my phone so I can text people. From AFRICA! Also, there is an app to learn Swahili on my phone! I spent the weekend teaching my little sister and nephews how to count to 10 and say several phrases in a language that I never could have imagined I would be attempting to speak! Such fun!

Please pray as the Lord brings Africa to your mind...and click the link above (Kenya 2010) for updates and more specific prayer requests if you are interested! Asante, rafiki! (Yeah...those aren't just made up words from The Lion King!)
